How to Choose the Right LumiSpa Treatment Cleanser for Your Skin Type

Start with your skin type, not your goals

LumiSpa iO pairs with treatment cleansers formulated for five skin types: Normal/Combination, Dry, Oily/Combination, Sensitive, and Blemish-Prone/Acne. The right choice starts with how your skin actually behaves — tight and flaky, shiny by midday, easily irritated, prone to breakouts — rather than a specific result you're chasing.

If you're unsure, our Find Your Routine quiz asks a few quick questions and gives you a starting recommendation based on your answers.

Normal/Combination and Dry skin

Normal/Combination is the general-purpose formula, suited to skin that isn't strongly oily or dry, or that behaves differently in the T-zone versus the cheeks. It's a good default if nothing else on this list clearly describes your skin.

Dry is formulated for skin that regularly feels tight, flaky or rough, particularly after cleansing. Paired with the device's gentle motion, it's designed to cleanse thoroughly without over-stripping.

Oily/Combination and Sensitive skin

Oily/Combination is suited to skin that tends to look shiny, particularly in the T-zone, by mid-to-late day. It's formulated to help manage that daily oil and residue as part of your cleansing step.

Sensitive is formulated for skin that reacts easily — redness, tightness or reactivity to new products. If you have an active skin condition, unexplained irritation, recently had a cosmetic treatment, or broken or damaged skin, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before choosing any cleanser or using the device.

Blemish-Prone/Acne skin

This formula is designed for skin that experiences regular breakouts or blemish-prone areas. It pairs with the device's consistent, twice-daily motion to help ensure impurities are cleansed away thoroughly and evenly, session after session.

As with all formulas, results build with consistent use rather than overnight, and individual experiences vary from person to person.

What to expect and how to switch

Whichever cleanser you choose, consistent twice-daily use is designed to help skin look more radiant and fresher-looking over time, with texture that may appear smoother and pores that may look less visible.

It's fine to switch cleansers if your skin's needs change with the seasons or over time — the device itself stays the same, only the treatment cleanser changes. Cleanser-only refills are available once you own the starter kit, so switching doesn't mean buying a new device.

Frequently asked questions

What if my skin doesn't fit neatly into one category?

Choose the formula that matches your skin's most noticeable or bothersome trait, or take the Find Your Routine quiz for a personalised starting recommendation.

Can I use a different cleanser I already own?

LumiSpa iO is designed to be used with its own matching treatment cleansers, chosen according to skin type, rather than arbitrary cleansers.

Do I need to buy a new device to switch cleansers?

No. The device stays the same — only the treatment cleanser changes, and cleanser-only refills are available once you own the starter kit.

How long before I should expect to see a difference?

Visible changes are generally described as building with consistent, twice-daily use over time rather than after a single session. Individual experiences vary.

Is there a cleanser for acne-prone skin?

Yes, the Blemish-Prone/Acne formula is designed for skin that experiences regular breakouts or blemish-prone areas.
